COMMUNITY GARDEN

Lafayette Neighborhood Community Garden

BY: Erica S

Uniontown, PA

HOW WOULD YOU USE THIS GRANT TO HELP YOUR COMMUNITY?

This grant will be used to re-enliven the Lafayette Community Garden for the well-being & education of both students at Lafayette Elementary & the local neighborhood. According to 2012 PA County Health Rankings, Fayette County was rated 2nd worst (66/67) in diet & exercise, & worst (67/67) in "built environment" (access to rec facilities & healthy food options). Approximately 95% of Lafayette Elementary students are part of the free/reduced lunch program. This grant will allow our dedicated team to 1) renew the Lafayette Community Garden's raised beds, shed/greenhouse & tools/supplies/curriculum, 2) outreach using a variety of media to galvanize students & community around cultivating food, 3) sow, grow, & harvest family-friendly, local produce which is easily-accessible to the community, & 4) provide experiential learning experiences for students & community from seed to plate
