COMMUNITY GARDEN

Livsey School Orchard

BY: Mike F

Tucker, GA

HOW WOULD YOU USE THIS GRANT TO HELP YOUR COMMUNITY?

The Friends of Tucker Parks’ Orchard Guild’s mission is simple; we want our neighbors in Tucker, especially the youngsters, to eat more fruit and cut back on their processed food eating habits. We want to bring a new, community-centered, orchard-to-table model to Tucker. The Orchard Guild has 3 major initiatives: Orchard Installations, Educational Discussions and Lectures, and Public Education at Events. This grant will help us to: 1) Purchase and plant many more fruit trees – literally hundreds across our city. We also need to purchase tools for installing and maintaining the orchards, such as shovels, pruning shears, and gloves. 2) Create educational materials and presentations for the Orchard Guild’s new Lecture Series. 3) Purchase a tent, promotional, and educational materials to use at orchard sites during installations, workdays, and local festivals.
